Winifred M "Winnie" Breyette

Plattsburgh ” Mrs. Winifred "Winnie" M. Breyette, 85, of Cumberland Head Rd, passed away March 19, 2014 at the CVPH Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh NY, on September 26, 1928, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Grenier) Follett. Winnie graduated from Plattsburgh High School, class of 1946. Winnie married Malcolm C. Breyette, August 7, 1947 in St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. She worked at Champlain College (ACUNY) in Plattsburgh from 1946 until 1950 when she left her position as Secretary to L. Newton Hayes, Director of Admissions, to start a family. She became a member of the staff in the Office of Superintendent of Schools in Plattsburgh in 1965. She retired from her position as Secretary to the Superintendent in 1990. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Cumberland Head, and a charter member of the church choir. She is survived by her seven children, Susan Schlacter of West Chazy, Stephen Breyette, Scott Breyette, Mary Breyette and Jeff Breyette of Plattsburgh, Jane Breyette and Russell Fraser of South Burlington, VT, and Jennifer and Edward Szalkowski of Morrisonville, nine grandchildren; Elizabeth, Daniel, Brendan, Joshua, Ellen, Peter, Leah, Will, and Megan; two great grandchildren, Emily and Luke, and several nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Malcolm, granddaughter Emily Schlacter, sister Janet Bellflower, son-in-law Leonard Schlacter, and her niece, Deborah K. Bellflower. Calling hours will be Friday, March 21, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Lake Oratory on Cumberland Head. Interment will follow in the spring at the parish cemetery.
