Joseph Louis Dufrane

Joseph “Louie” Dufrane, aged 85 years, of West Chazy, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on March 30th, 2026. In the days leading up to his passing, Joseph was surrounded and cared for by his loving family with the aid of Hospice of the North Country.

Born in Chatteguay, NY, on October 31st, 1940, to Stephen and Laura Dufrane, Joseph was beloved by his parents and his three sisters: Vina Beckwith, Marie (Robert) Winterbottom, and Roxian Francis. While working at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, he met his wife Joyce, and they were married on April 20th, 1968. Later on, he worked at Georgia Pacific for 38 years and made many friends along the way. Together, Joseph and Joyce raised two sons, Joseph E. (Renae) Dufrane and Jerry (Janet) Dufrane. Joseph and Joyce were blessed with two granddaughters, Katelyn (Dylan) Garrow and Shelbi Dufrane, whom they loved dearly. He also adored his fur-grandbabies throughout the years. Joseph was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews, whom he held dear to his heart. Joseph was a devoted brother, husband, uncle, father, and grandfather; his love for his family was immeasurable.

Joseph was known to many as an extremely kind soul who was always happy to stop and chat. He was quick with a joke and enjoyed making people laugh. Joseph was also an avid country music fan and enjoyed sharing his love of music with everyone. He will be remembered as a loving, talkative, and genuine man who took pride in bringing a smile to the faces of everyone he came across.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his sisters, wife, sons, granddaughters, nieces, and nephews. Funerary services will be held at Brown’s Funeral Home on Saturday, April 4th, 2026. The viewing will be from 12:00-2:00 P.M., with services at 2:00 P.M., and the burial to follow in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the North Country.
